I took this photo while on the train in Osaka, originally just because I liked the view. While I don't think I quite captured the atmosphere I wanted (I'll blame the lack of wide angle lens on my phone), I did happen to catch two interesting vending machines. I'm not sure whether they belong to the izakaya on the corner or not. The izakaya itself seems to be fairly famous because of their ¥1 sake, there are a bunch of videos about it on youtube too. With that said, I was unable to find better pictures of the vending machines online with the simple searches I did (once again they seem relatively new, google maps streetview doesn't have them yet).
At first I thought that the left one seems to be alcohol, but after looking at it a bit more, it turns out it sells ponzu sauce. The top text says "if [...] your money back", the condition unfortunately blocked by another sign. Luckily searching for the specific ponzu sauce I was able to find an article about this type of machine. To summarise the article, the wending machine sells ponzu sauce connected to a (now closed?) fugu hotpot restaurant called toraya. The text at the top says: if it's no good you get your money back!
The vending machine on the right is some kind of trading card vending machine. Once again, I can't read much more than that about what kind of cards are exactly sold because of the lack of pixels in my photo.
Japan has such a great track record with public order and cleanliness of public spaces that it becomes a fun challenge to find the outliers. Here we can see that even in Japan some vending machines can't escape a bit of graffiti and virtually being barricaded by parked bicycles.
